Not every week brings a brand-new supercar kit or freshly tooled racing legend. Sometimes the hobby hands us a spider-themed dragster from 1968 and 48 extremely small hood pins.
Honestly, that is difficult to complain about.
Here is what caught our attention in 1/24 scale for the week ending September 11, 2026.
Tom Daniel’s Tarantula Wild Digger Returns
Atlantis Models is bringing back one of the stranger creations from the golden age of American show-rod kits: the Tom Daniel Tarantula Wild Digger.
The newly listed 1/24 kit is scheduled for release in January 2027. It is a reissue of the Monogram model first released in 1968 rather than completely new tooling, but this is one case where familiarity is part of the appeal.
Tom Daniel designed some of the most memorable fantasy vehicles ever turned into plastic kits. His creations were not concerned with practical matters such as trunk space, fuel economy or whether a human being could safely see over the engine.
The Tarantula Wild Digger follows that philosophy nicely.
Its centerpiece is a front-mounted, supercharged 427-cubic-inch Ford V8. Spider-leg exhaust headers extend from the engine, giving the dragster its distinctive arachnid appearance. The kit also includes a deployed drag chute, which opens the door to a more active display instead of another perfectly clean car sitting quietly in a parking space.

Tiny Hood Pins Get the 3D-Printed Treatment
At the other end of the size spectrum, Decalcas has introduced two universal quick-release hood-pin sets for 1/24 and 1/25 race cars.
The first recreates PIP-style quick-release hood pins. Each set contains 24 3D-printed pins with handles measuring approximately 1.6mm.
The second offers T-handle quick-release hood pins. These also come in sets of 24, with handles measuring approximately 2.4mm.
Both sets are scheduled for October 2026.
These parts may be tiny, but they can make a noticeable difference on racing models. Molded-in hood pins often look soft or oversized. Replacing them with separate pieces adds depth and creates more convincing shadows around the fasteners.
Because the sets are universal, they can be used on touring cars, rally cars, endurance racers, drag cars and other competition builds. You are not limited to one manufacturer or one specific kit.

NuNu’s BMW 320i Receives the Full Detail Treatment
Platz added the NuNu BMW 320i E46 WTCC detail-up set to its latest product feed on September 10. The package was released in August, making this an availability update rather than a new product announcement.
Designed for NuNu’s 2005 BMW 320i E46 WTCC kit, the set includes photo-etched brake discs, wipers and seatbelt hardware. It also supplies fabric belts, a metal antenna and carbon-pattern decals.
This is a useful combination because it targets several areas where molded plastic has limitations. Thin metal works well for brake and wiper components, while fabric provides a more convincing seatbelt texture. The carbon decals add visual interest without asking the builder to reproduce a microscopic weave pattern by hand.
The set is best suited to an intermediate builder. None of the individual upgrades is unusually complicated, but photo-etched parts demand careful removal, bending and attachment.
